Mental Health
Practical mental performance, not therapy. This isn’t going to tell you to journal your gratitude or take a bubble bath. It’s written for guys who want to understand what’s actually going on and what to do about it — more topics (ADHD/executive dysfunction, relationships, identity after 40) are planned.
If you’re in crisis
If you’re having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) — free, confidential, available 24/7. If it’s an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest ER. Nothing on this page is a substitute for that.
Burnout Isn’t Laziness
What burnout actually is, why it hits differently in your 40s, and what the research says actually helps.
Motivation Doesn’t Work Like You Think
Why waiting to "feel motivated" backfires, and why the 40s slump is an inflection point, not a crisis.
Trying to figure out whether it’s burnout, a purpose slump, or both, and what to actually do about it? Read Burnout and the Midlife Crisis: What Actually Helps on the blog.
Mental performance in midlife
Midlife brings a particular mix of pressures — peak career and family load, aging parents, changing health — and men in their 40s and 50s are less likely than women to seek help when they’re struggling. Burnout, flat motivation, and a sense of drift are common, and they respond better to specific, practical changes than to willpower.
The guides here explain what the research actually says about burnout, motivation, and purpose, in plain language. They’re not a substitute for professional care: if you’re struggling with persistent low mood, talk to a doctor or therapist, and if you’re in crisis call or text 988.
